I Met a Blogger

About seventy-five years back, I stumbled across a little website called x-entertainment. I fell in love with it immediately because of the content and the readers and blog posters who, like me were insanely obsessed with nostalgia, holidays, and cold weather. Over the the time I spent there, I can honestly say I have made friends on that site whom I had never seen with my own eyes, until yesterday.

That’s me and Billy/Will/Bill/the man behind veggiemacabre. He’s moving across the entire country to start an amazing new life, and was nice enough to stop and visit on his way.

So, one down.

Republican National Convention…on My Shoulder…Makes me Happy.

Ever since our nation has decided the two men that will talk smack about each other during the entirety of the next few months while I am trying to watch television, I have had friends and family on either side of the political sports arena tell me that if their star player does not win, “Things will get SCARY!”

So, basically, we are screwed. However, being that the Republican National Convention will take place where I live, I am actually getting kinda excited. I don’t consider myself a part of one side or the other, I just cannot handle commitments of any kind. I believe, though, that the amount of protesters and media members who will be in town along with the GOP-ers themselves will create for a lively time that I am looking forward to the same way I look forward to elementary school spring break. Not quite so fun as Christmas break, but still you know that great things will happen.

I live on a pretty major street in my city, and I am thinking of fashioning a banner to hang out my window. Here is what I have so far:

No I am serious, wanna?

PS, if you want to discuss your political opinions in the thread, I will short sheet your bed.

The Most Comprehensive Tropic Thunder Review Out There

I am lying. I don’t think anything I am about to write could be considered a spoiler, but if it is, whoops.

I saw a preview for this months ago, thought it might be funny. I knew Ben Stiller was in it, I am an unenthusiastic fan of his. He’s really funny, not the best. I had no clue that Robert Downey Jr. was in it, and I swear if they had not shown him prior to his “transformation” I would not have known it was him. Also, Tom Cruise. I leaned over halfway through the film and said, “Is that Tom Cruise?” I was assured the chunky man with the hairy chest was Jerry Maguire in disguise.

Back to RDJ: You were my favorite part in this movie. You are welcome.

Most Embarrassing Moment…for the day.

I have mentioned before, and once again I will state, I am a server. The restaurant I work at is quite busy in the summer. Actually it is a fenzied bee-hive like mad house and frankly, I am tired.

Today we had electrical issues. Those issues included the power for about one third of the restaurant went out. The most significant outage was the hood fans. I am going to assume you don’t know what hood fans are: they are the fans that suck op the smoke over where the grills and such are. So, they being out results in the smoke having no outlet.

We did not close when this happened. It took very little time for the restaurant to have a light smoky haze which became worse the closer you were to the cooks line. After about a half an hour in the smoke I turned to a co-worker and said, “I feel kinda dizzy” She half-way agreed that she too, was feeling funny. I have a knack for overreacting and panicking and I figured that this was such an occasion, so I kept on running around headless chicken like and bringing food to the hungry men and ladies of Minneapolis. As I was racing back to the kitchen I went from an upright position to sitting on the floor without really knowing how I got there. I don’t think I fully blacked out, but it was kinda freaky either way. And that’s not the embarrassing part.

I was thinking in my head of those special fire emergency instructions given to us when we were all kids, “Stay close to the floor and get out!” So I ran, head down, out the front door and into a mob of people who were waiting to get into the restaurant. I didn’t want to go back in just yet, but I looked like the mad woman on the street corner who talks to her ball point pen. I sat for a second on one of the chairs meant for patient and hungry future guests, catching my breath while concerned onlookers asked if I was OK.

The worst part, I had to go back in and tend to the rest of my tables, and then get sat again with more tables, filled with those kind citizens who watched my breakdown on the streets of downtown.

I’ll bet they thought I was on crack. Which could be looked at as momumental moment: I, a girl too scared to take pain pills, was mistaken as a druggie. Whoopee!

The Earth is Flat

If you have never visited Fark, I suggest you do so now. Today, while I was making my daily visit, I was reminded of something I heard several years ago: People still believe the earth is flat. Yes, it’s crazy. Read about it here.

Or is it?

Apparently we are being held on the earth and don’t “fall off” because of the ice surrounding the the edges of the oceans, or something.

I think I can go with this theory. I would like to believe. It would completely make for amazing explorations in the future when we discover what is on the other side of the earth. I have ideas, hypotheses, brewing in my thoughts. I think it’s where the Care Bears really live.

Prove me wrong.

Search Result of the Day:

“Why did my boyfriend call after a decade?”

Yes, someone searched for it, and ended up here of all places. Answer: because he was drunk.

Top 7 Sevens

6. Magnificent 7- The Clash

The Clash decided to rap, I love it.

5. Saturday

Previous to the job I hold now, Friday has been my favorite day of the week. However, now, I work with many people who work on the weekends as well and the spirit of Friday does not permiate throughout the hearts of everyone there. So, not Saturday is my favorite day. There was a good night before and a good day ahead.

4. 7-Up

I don’t drink this soda often. I bet not in a year or better. Since Sierra Mist seems to be taking over 7-Up at the fountains, I just never see it. But they had a dot as their mascot, that’s spectacular.

3. 7 Dwarfs

Would we call them the seven little people in 2008?

2. Joe Mauer

Probably the last #7 for the Twins, as I am sure they will retire his number. They overplayed this commercial here In Minnesota for a year.

1. 7-eleven

Probably my favorite logo is 7-11’s. When I was in high school I bought empty gulp cups from the 16 oz. gulp all the way to the 64 oz. double gulp. with these cups I made a mobile that hung from the ceiling of my bedroom. The mobile hung for maybe half an hour after I left for college and has not been seen since my mother stomped it to the floor and burned it. I’d make another, but the nearest store is in Chicago.

Top 7 Olympians of All Time

So, I am now a couch potato. I have not watched much TV in the past couple years, but it feels good to sink into the cushions and eat potato chips while watching lean bodies do impossible looking things. Since probably 1988, I can remember watching the Olympics and viewing sports that I never think twice about the rest of the year. There’s a few names that sit in my head, taking up space. They are/were the greatest athletes in their sport in the world, that’s pretty cool. Also pretty cool are these guacemole chips.

7. Venus and Serena Williams- Tennis

I am well aware that these two women are basically the best female tennis players of their generation. I really never watch tennis much, except at the Olympics. However, I can imagine, that winning a gold medal would be so much better if your best friend and sister was able to share it with you.

6. Svetlana Khorkina- Gymnastics

This girl seemed to be the best female gymnast for years. She always had a scowl on her face. She was also much taller than all those little peanuts. But I don’t think she was pissed, I bet she was just shy and very very nice.

Here’s a picture of her smiling:

5. Lithuania Basketball Team

I love the US and like it when our teams win and all, but when these guys beat the US and their team full of “dreamy” NBA players, you had to admire that. Also, the uniforms.

4. Jackie Joyner Kersee- Track and Field

This woman has been named the best female athlete of all time by so many people. She really is. Oh, and after she won a crap load of medals, she played pro basketball, not super well, but still.

3. Dan O’Brien- Track and Field

Remember when he and Dave were supposed to be the super stars of track and field in 1992. And then Dan didn’t make it. Whoops. But, in 1996, he did make it and got the gold, whereas Dave had gotten bronze four years earlier. I bet it was worth the wait.

2. Alexei Nemov- Gymnastics

Um, I hear he does gymnastics well. No, seriously, I remember him at the three previous Olympics, he basically won a medal in everything.

1. Geena Davis- Archery

OK, this is cheating. She never made it all the way. But imagine if she did, that’d be weird.
