Top 7 Trends of the 90’s

The fads of the 80’s are now in full swing. Target is full of retro items from this time. To me this is a sign that this fad is not far from passing. SO, I predict that in a couple years time we will have retreated back to the following decade, the 90’s.

From 1994 until I graduated I attended Inthemiddleofnowhere High School. This, combined with my mail order obsession with the Delia’s Catalog is why I believe I was voted best dressed in my tiny little class. This pseudo ego boost is why I feel I have the right to list the greatest fads from the 1990’s

7. Cyber Clothing

In 1995, before she had adopted anyone, Angelina Jolie was in a movie called Hackers. In this movie she ran around in shiny clothing and I wanted to wear it too. I had shiny everything; shoes, skirts, shirts etc. Ugh.

6. Cross Colors
In the suburban place I lived in the early 90’s we were just getting our first earfuls of hip hop and rap. Some fellow cul da sac members decided they would adopt the rappers fashion as their own. This also included starter jackets and Malcom X t-shirts. I just want the crazy bright colored jeans to make their way back to the shelf.

5. Hypercolor
Heat sensitive clothing is funny. I always wanted them to come out with a pair of pants so that I could tell when someone did that thing I still cannot say out of guilt.

4. Boarder Hats
I never skated. I tried snowboarding a few times, but always ended back on my skis. However, I had quite a few hats made from brands like stussy, Simple, and dozens of shirts from those companies as well. I was a big big poser.

3. Chunky Shoes.
First brought in by the hiking/Doc Martin style shoes of grunge and carried on by our friends accross the pond The Spice Girls, this was a trend I enjoyed. Big shoes made me taller and they were typically comfortable.

2. Babydoll dresses
CourtneyLove brought this about when she yelled about Doll Parts. Cher, from Clueless made it classier. I tried it both ways, but I was just not so dirty looking as Courtney.

1. FLANNELS!
In the 90’s I wore flannels every day. So did you. It was a great trend. Usually it would just double as my coat for the day. Soon, we were wearing every article of clothing made out of the soft fabric. During this time I went to the local Wal-Mart with my friends and we were able to buy flannels at 4.97 a pop. I had about twenty. Not just from Wal-Mart. My mother hated it.

The Max’s First Day

I did not like this morning. Well I did. I woke Max up early and we had breakfast and all the pre-requisite first day stuff. He went into school so easily. Just sat right down and began talking and doing a puzzle. I held it together while in the building, but after that I was a wreck. Only six more hours and I can pick him up.

Brunch and Baseball

Sometimes, on the weekends, I like to wake up and eat my foot for breakfast. I might dwell for a bit, but then I go get coffee. Today at Coffee Land there was a quote on my cup

“In the end were all the same”

Word up Starbucks cup guy, word up. You’ve helped me to move on.

So then I gather the cousins, I choose them because they are teenagers which means they know how to have a good time. Then we go watch baseball.

The foot I had earlier wasn’t very filling, so I was plenty hungry by the time we got there. This was the food boughten before the first inning even began:

Notice the variety of color and texture. I enjoy fine cuisine. Among the blob there is a hot dog, nachos, Cracker Jacks, a malt cup and 871234oz. Johan Santana souvenir cup of Coke. I’d like to brag and say I ate them all myself, but I had help.

And my help furnished the cotton candy.

I tried to take a picture of Broderick, and he suprised me by photoing me back. These pics were taken simultaneously, which I would call “trippy” if I were high and 17.

And then it happened…

About 6th or 7th inning we had our big moment. Yup. we were on the Jumbo-Tron/Big Screen Thingy. I didn’t take a picture of it as it happened, so here’s a poorly pieced together picture of what it may have looked like.

Man I love ballgames. The cousins I go with are the best because they sing the songs and do the wave.

And on the way out the door the 5 gallon bucket drummers give us our tune to walk home with.
And tomorrow I think I’ll have eggs.

If I had a spine…

I would like to test out dj voices in the headset to customers in the drive thru. At 530am I need something to humor myself with.

Run a 5K. I know now that I can do it. I just hate to run in public.

When I hold out my hand for a customer to put the money they are paying for their order with and they toss the coins across the counter and ignore my hand, I would like to then toss their change across the counter when they hold their hand out.

To whoever calls the shop from a private number and never says anything, I would like to read you cheesy poetry sounding as though it were written by third graders. I just never have anything in mind when you call.

This is my last year eligible to try out for American Idol. And although my singing is terrible at best, I would like to sit in line for a day with all those excited people for the chance to see Paula Abdul and be called Dawg……and on that note, I would like to learn guitar, but not acoustic, electric. But I think I’d get laughed outta a guitar shop. (Insert red face here)

When THE MAN comes around, I would like for us to have a high fiving relationship. But seriously, he scares me like when the principal walks into the room and you sat up straight.

And lastly, I would like to have the power to kill spiders with my laser eyes. That’d be so cool.

this is a blog rerun on another network, I just wanted to post the laser eye pic one more time

Top 7 Reasons to Partake on a Wednesday Night

I recently prefaced a story to someone with, “I really don’t drink that much but” and went on to tell the silly tale. However I realize that today is the fourth day in the past two weeks that I have had one or more adult beverages. So here is my rationalization for my minute binge. In Top 7 form:

7. Max is feeling better. He was ill. He’s just now at the sleep a lot to recover point, hence the chance to have a beer that’s not really beer. I just call it that cause it’s in the same shaped bottle. Mike’s Hard Lemonade is girly. Yeah, I said it. My spell check is showing me that girly is incorrect, but I am going to use it anyhow.

6. I started school in the classroom today. I started my online classes earlier this week. I wish they were all in a classroom, but it’s actually been fun so far. Last time I was in school it was for interior design, which i enjoy, but I enjoy this far more. Ask me again when my papers are due.

5. Only two more days of August left. I’ve missed you sweet September. This topic was killed on XE this week, so I won’t elaborate.

4. Good excuse to fire up the texting feature of my phone. (sorry to the victims of this silly habit) I get chatty and feel the need to converse in short sentences with others.

3. I had a Pronto-Pup this week. I am still living off the greasy battered high.

2. My sister wrote a killer blog on the flick Kitten Companions, which you should all watch. I say this having never seen it myself, but it is for sale on Amazon, and I am going to buy it. I am also going to check back to Amazon and see if you went and bought it as well, there’s only 9 copies left people.

1. The number one reason is that today is amazing overall. I woke up to the sound of my sweet little boys voice. I ate lunch for the first time at a restaurant all alone and had a particularity friendly server. I had TWO HOURS of free time where I had to be nowhere and doing nothing, which is rare. Two seconds ago while finishing the previous sentence I got a response to one of my texts. Oh, and today or tomorrow, depending on how you look at it, it’s I Don’t Want to Think About Chicken While Eating Doritos Day. I’m gonna go and use it someplace else now.

The Cure/Fungus Head

A month from tomorrow I was supposed to be in Chicago. I was supposed to be seeing The Cure for the first time ever. Unfortunately they canceled their North American tour and postponed it until next spring. Grrr. The official press release said something about wanting to finish their new album and being able to incorporate it into the show. So, I choose to believe them. Why not. For real I hope it is so Robert Smith can get himself into some sorta shape. He used to look like this:

So anyways, I was browsing through You Tube videos and decided this is my favorite video of the day. It is a happy one and it fits my mood. Not the visuals, I have no idea what’s going on there, just the song.

And since I am in a video posting mood, Click here for the Fungus head blog link. I posted this on MySpace last winter when I still worked at a place which allowed me to keep my computer in my vicinity all day. And it has some Cure in it too.

My New favorite Word, Again.

I start school today. I am a bit scared, but being as I really care this time I think I’ll do alright. I have two online courses which are different than the classes I took online 9 years ago. This time around there are videos and such. Graphics are much better. And I now understand the concept of a forum.

I also have “sit in the desk” classes and I am most happy about those. Those are actually going to give me writing assignments. One, in particular where I will have to write fiction. Something I really have never done.

The greatest part about school is the papers they hand out (or the ones I print) which have the entire course spelled out for you one day one. Yes, I mean the syllabus. But I get to say it plural, cause I have four classes.

I have…syllabi!

Minnesota State Fair part 1

I went to the Minnesota State Fair today. It did not disappoint. I dragged my son to a million food on a stick booths and shoved him on rides. Just before we left I went over to the massive slide that you have to ride down on a burlap sack. As we were going down he hill I snapped a picture of him from in front of us. Basically I just put the camera in his face a clicked to see what he looked like while going down. I have to say he looks pretty happy. Like most parents, I’m sure, I worry about how he is enjoying his childhood. Today I think I did OK.
