Bumblebee Snickers

I was chatting with Crown Combo’s Mystie the other day.  She mentioned Transformer’s M & Ms and a further quest to locate Bumblebee Snickers.   Last night as I was purchasing a bottle of 7up at the gas station, I found the candy at the impulse item spot next to the register.  Immediately I though of Mystie, and bought a couple.

Here’s the concoction.  Snickers is not my favorite treat.  Speaking of treats, I remember when I was a kid Sunday was “treat day.”  I took treat day very seriously.  When church was over, we went to the local convenience store and got to choose one candy.  I believe I almost always chose M & M’s or Lik-a-Maid Fun Dip.  Moving on.  If Snickers did not include marketing for the new Transformer’s movie, I would probably not buy it.  The advertising geniuses did their job here.

051

The wrapper promises nothing more than yellow nougat.  I like nougat, it’s a good time.  I don’t like Snickers nougat.  If there was a candy bar with 3 Musketeers Nougat and the caramel and peanuts covered in chocolate that Snickers offers, I might get fat.  Snickers currently, won’t do it.

057

See that card?  It’s my recently acquired movie rental card here in Fancy New Town.  I put it next to the bar to show how small it is.  Are all Snickers Bars now this teeny?  I was going to use a dollar bill, but I couldn’t get it to lie flat, and was not about to drag out the clothes iron for this mission.

052

I wouldn’t really call this yellow.  Goldenrod?  It’s definitely one of those Crayola colors in the box of 96 crayons that got no play.

Now, I put this on the floor for pictures.  Therefore, I had to eat the other one to report to you that there is no variation on the taste.  But let’s be honest, had I not decided to write on it and dropped the bar on the floor out of the package I probably would have followed  the ten second rule and finished it off anyhow.

…..is this thing on?

I get Internet tomorrow. Correction, I get an Internet installation kit tomorrow, it could take months.

It has been most frustrating thinking if a blog idea and then having it pushed to the back if my brain, cause ya cannot post a YouTube video if ya can’t upload one.

My iphone’s gonna feel neglected. Cheers to no more posts like this one!

Star Trek………spoilers?? Not sure

So…Star Trek was nice, I enjoyed it. Twice.

As a non-Trekkie, I cannot judge if it was accurate in relation to the origional series. I thought the plot was clever, watching it the second time, the time travel Spock concept was much more clear.

Really, the biggest critique I have for the film was One line Spock said. It was cheesebal. As captain Kirk is preparing to beam back onto the Enterprise, he says to Spock, “you cheated”. To which Spock replies, ” I learned it from an old friend.” Cringe!!!!!!! Oh Spock. A wise or even smug look would have been much smarter at this moment. If I knew you were going to say anything, I would guess it was this. And if I know what you are going to say, I will just sit at home and think about it and not spend ten bucks listening to you spout obvious lines.
But, overall, I thought it was a great film.

So, no internet yet. This is my first real attempt at WordPress via the phone. I hate it. However, I am going on four weeks sans Internet. A first since, ah, 1997? 98? Somewhere in there.

I still have a very flakey laptop. I’ve turned my long neglected novel into a screenplay (not done yet). But, I have narrowed my choice of directors down to two people. Too ambitious? I’ve bought and am reading Five books, and have spent much time making the new place outstanding. Have I mentioned how outstanding my new place is? You’ll love it.

Top 7 iPhone Apps

iphone-apps

A month or more back, I was up for a new contract with my cell phone company.  So, being as I could, I dropped them and flocked to AT&T to see if the iPhone was worth all they hype.  It’s nice, I won’t lie.  If I want to get online, as I am currently, I have to sit in a corner of my home on the floor to steal internet from the neighbors.  I am essentially in time out.  So, in the in between times, I check email etc. with my phone.

When I approached the salesman at the phone store, I asked him to show me the fun details of the phone.  He assured me that I would become addicted to it in no time.  This has not been the case entirely. I really like it, I do.  but I am not addicted to it as I was my previous phone…yet.

The apps are the best part of the phone.  There’s a gazillion different things you can do with the phone, talking on it is rarely one of them.  I won’t go into detail explaining what an app is.  I’ll just say they are like icon shortcuts on your computer’s home screen to different programs.  Here are my favorite, so far.  Choosing seven was rather easy, as I have very few to begin with.

7. facebook

facebook

I guess I have to name this one.  I use it, but compared to online facebook, it is atrocious.  I tried the chat feature for the first and last time last week.  I think maybe one third of my posts went through.

6. What’s On

tv

I don’t have cable, therefore I have no TV guide channel.  If I wanna know when reruns of  Friends or That 70’s Show are on, I use this.

5. Catch-a-Mouse

catch-a-mouse2

This is a logic type game. The Max rules at it. I hand the phone to him to play it when we are standing in line for a good amount of time.  If you do download this app, turn the sound off. It is most annoying.

4.  At Bat

mlb

Have I mentioned I have no cable?  So, if I want to know the Minnesota Twins score, I check this.  Not the same as listening to Circle me Bert, but informative just the same.  To end your confusion: Bert Blyleven, a retired baseball player, is a television announcer for the Minnesota Twins.  Every game, people bring giant signs begging the man to “circle” them with that crazy TV chalk.      Bert came into the restaurant I work at the other week, most thrilling celebrity moment for me so far at my job after Al Franken

3.  Gratitude Journal

gratitude

It’s a diary, more or less.   In shorthand form, you write what was good about your day.  I don’t love it yet, but in a year, I might read old posts and get nostalgic.  I get nostalgic way too easily, it’s a fault of mine

2. AIM

aim

YES!  I have not been on instant messenger for over a week.  I don’t use it quite so much since facebook added their effed up chat.  But I think I am going to quit facebook chat and use AIM exclusively.   And when someone Im’s you, you get  a text.  IM me! —>  pilverkb

1.  Scrabble

scrabble-iphone

I would bet Scrabble is the board game I am best at.  The only person I have ever played who gives me a challenge  is my dad.  He lives 1700 miles away in Seattle, so now I can play against a computer, who knows every word in the dictionary.  I lose a lot.  But when I win, I feel like a big happy nerd.

Top 7 Suburban Stereotypes

I live in the suburbs now, so it’s okay if I poke jokes at them, right?  I’m going to either way.  Whenever I have lived in small towns or large cities, people always mock the ‘burbs.  While I was in the process of securing this place, I had one friend say to me, ” I know black people that won’t even go to ______!! (the blank equals my new town)  Well, judgment aside, I love my new yard, a suburb staple.  And there is a really nice family across the street, who happen to be black.  But let’s go back to mocking the smaller towns surrounding major metropolitan cities!

7. People are…larger.

I will say, the grocery stores here do seem to be better stocked with staple items like Hamburger Helper and gigantic boxes of pizza rolls.  There’s more restaurants of the fast food variety than any other.  I guess I have not really taken a good look at the girth of the locals.

6. Men drive trucks, women drive minivans/SUVs.

This IS something that is probably on the truer side. Also, people are more into cars here it does seem.  For the first time ever feel a little self-conscious of the car that an ex-boyfriend’s mother referred to as  a POS.  But I like my POS, and am a little too broke to buy a new one at the time.

5. People Are Less Cultured

Well, duh.  People will be less cultured where there is less diversity and, uh, culture.

4. It’s nothing but chain businesses and strip malls.

DING DING DING DING!!  So spot on.  Actually, there is an old downtown here, that has been maintained fairly well.  There are many mom and pop stores still in business from when I was a very little girl.  But, less than a mile away is the most confusing huge area of strip malls with virtually every chain store known to Americans.  Seriously, name one, it is probably there.

3. The Houses all Look the Same

I guess.  It depends on the neighborhood you are in.  My house looks the same as the next two, but different than the ten or so on the next block.  Then again, those ten all look the same. I still turn into the right driveway every time.

2. People Don’t Walk

I think this may be true as well.  Unless it’s for exercise I don’t see people using their feet to commute places.  Of course, that does not include the black clad high school students.  They always walk in packs.

1.  People are much more conservative

I had no idea.  I tried to find the presidential election results from the city I live.  Didn’t  fine ’em.  My guess is that this is true, but only cause the TV tells me so.

Cherry Dr. Pepper & Ruby Splash Sierra Mist

I’m all moved into the new place and out of the old!  Fifteen years after leaving the house I grew up in, I am back in that same town.  I am a bit weirded out to be back here on a daily basis.  Yesterday I went to the grocery store where at one time my entire family worked.  I saw seven (SEVEN!!!) employees roaming the aisles and manning the registers who were working there when I moved away a decade and a half ago.

I don’t want to talk about my move right now, however.  I want to talk about the sodas I found at the store.  Some of you are well aware that X-E’s Matt is the king of reviews for crazy carbonated beverages.  And while I will most likely never have a video as epic as Pitch Black II from 2005, I’m going to tell you about some new sodas on the shelf just the same.

035Two sodas took their regular flavor and determined that they could be flavored further with fruit.  Sierra Mist is already packed with lemon and lime.  Dr. pepper is flavored with…what IS the flavor of Dr. Pepper?

043

The taste test began.  I tried some Ruby Splash Sierra Mist first.  It reminded me of Ruby Red Squirt, but less sweet.  It is a much more tart tasting drink.  This soda is one I would buy again, in a twelve ounce can, or maybe a twenty ounce bottle.  I cannot give it the full case commitment.   I’ll be honest, I hate Sierra Mist, and for one reason; it is seemingly replacing 7-up.  The reason I was looking in the soda aisle in the first place yesterday was to find a bottle of 7-up to match up with the bottle of pomegranate vodka I was planning to bring over to a barbecue. It took way to long to find the uncola, as it had been reduced to the same amount of shelf space as other drinks like Tahitian Treat or Caffeine Free Coke.

7-up-dot

Pepsi Co., ditch the new guy and bring back that little red dot character.  I promise, I will buy more 7-up.

037

I tried it.  I am not sure I would tell friends about it’s amazing smoothness, but I did like it.  I’m a fan of cherry sodas already so Dr. Pepper was not going to have a difficult time winning me over with this new concoction.  There was a whole lot less of the Dr. Pepper flavor in here to make room for the cherry.  Good idea drink scientists.  I’d give Cherry Dr. Pepper a twelve pack rating, especially on a camping trip.  This would be great camping soda.

If you were only going to buy one soda for the rest of your life, and if it had to be one of these two, I would choose Cherry Dr. Pepper.   Unless, of course it is just before bedtime and you don’t feel like caffeine.  Even then I might not choose Sierra Mist Ruby Splash.  I’d probably just have herbal tea, or better yet a glass of red wine.

So, it goes Dr. Pepper>Red Wine>herbal tea>Sierra Mist Ruby Splash.   Got that?

See ya later!

four-types-of-rock

Following several issues from both landlords, the Uhaul co., etc. etc. etc…I will be moving.   I looked at a bunch of places, and chose one I found somewhere in the middle of my search.   I actually gave up after packing my entire place and decided to not move at all, until the greatest house on earth came through at the very last minute.  I ended up having to leave this area, which makes me sad.  But I will be living in a much much smaller town.  I’m kind of giddy about this.  I’m also giddy about the laundry room that I will have to share with no one else in the world.  But, being as it took until the last minute to secure a place, I did not transfer internet as of yet.  ie I cannnot blog from my phone…I can, but the keyboard feature on the iPhone is less than fun, IMHO.  So until the wires are flowing in new fabulous home…See Ya Later!  (Or as of Saturday, until then, we’re cool.)
