Days of the Week Set to Music

The 2006 Christmas Season launched a commercial for a kid’s karaoke machine where the actors sang Friday I’m in Love by The Cure. This commercial was heavily seen on most of the children’s cable channels. (Disney, Nickelodeon etc.) By New Years my son memorized the words to the chorus and I gained a new fellow Cure fan, AND he lived in the next bedroom. Thus began the ritual of waking him up Friday mornings with my laptop in hand with the song playing on itunes.

A few months of this and Max decided we ought to choose a song for every day of the week. Here is the list:

Monday- Manic Monday by The Bangles
Tuesday- Ruby Tuesday by The Rolling Stones
Wednesday- Waiting for Wednesday by Lisa Loeb
Thursday- Thursday by James MacDonald(This song is super lame)
Friday- Friday I’m in Love by The Cure

So, I am looking to add Saturday and Sunday to our queue, any suggestions. (Better suggestions for Thursday are appreciated as well)

  1. Gabriel... says:

    Thursday: David Bowie, “Thursday’s Child”

Satruday: Nickelback, “Saturday’s Alright For Fighting (remake)”

    Sunday: K-OS, “Sunday Morning”

    Sunday: Hole, “Best Sunday Dress”

Personally, as much as I like Hole, I’d go with K-OS on Sunday. Beautiful song…

I’d recommend “Saturday Waits” by Loney Dear. It goes well with the Wednesday tune too. I would put the youtube link like Gabriel did, but the music video is a bit…bizarre. So here’s a link! “Saturday Waits”

Actually, you kind of have to see the video…it’s pretty weird, even if you like dogs, which I do.

As for Sunday…you’ve probably already considered this, and maybe it’s a tad graphic, but you gotta go with “Sunday Bloody Sunday.”

Well…some nice, happy, non-bleeding-feet alternatives would be Queen’s “Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon”

or Velvet Underground’s “Sunday Morning.” (I think this is a popular song title.)

Oh…and before I look too much like a pretentious music “expert,” here is a one last song for thursday: “Sweet Thursday” by Matt Costa

    Okay…no more!

  3. Amy says:

Okay, this is cheesy. Easy Like Sunday Morning by Lionel Ritchie???

    Sorry.

  4. dailytri says:

    “S A T U R D A Y Night,” – I think KC and The Sunshine Band did that one.

  5. kittymao says:

Johnny Cash does a good sunday song- “Sunday Morning Comin’ Down” but’s only tolerable if you have a fifth of whiskey.

And I too wanna say “Saturday Night’s alright for Fightin’ “… Though I think the Billy Joel one’s ace.

  6. kittymao says:

oh- and sorry to double, but DailyTri- “S A T U R D A Y Night” -That was the Bay City Rollers!

  7. Guise Dugal says:

So many songs called “Saturday Night”, but if you want to add some cheese to your week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcmBaRAj7FU

Why yes, I do personally remember this from my younger years. A teenager, trying to dance with these alluring yet terrifying creatures called ‘girls’, to a song that really shouldn’t have had any boys on the dance floor of the youth club.

As for Sunday, how about “Gloomy Sunday”? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WBZwLkvpFI

  8. Guise Dugal says:

I kid, go for “Sunday Bloody Sunday”!

  9. kristiane says:

OK, so I am definitely going to use Saturday Night by the BCRs. Thank you. I don’t think Sunday Bloody Sunday would work for my 6-year-old, but I am going to go check out easy, Like Sunday morning and that Thursday song. Thank you all.

  10. Greg says:

I love Amy’s suggestion for Sunday.
I would choose Chicago’s song for Saturday. I don’t really know the title but in it you hear “Saturday/ In the park/ I think it was the fourth of July
