It’s been a good summer. I cannot believe it’s over and it seems to have taken three years all at once. I bought about four dozen fall scented candles last week. I dug out all my Martha Stewart September through November issues from the past many years that I have been nerdily collecting. I signed The Max up for school today. I’m ready.
Nothing…NOTHING excites me more than the beginning of fall. I live for it. I dream of wool sweaters as soon as the April thaw hits. A yearly heaven is beginning. Here’s a list of the things I anticipate when September hits:
Apple Cider
Pencils-The kind you sharpen
Knitting and Crocheting-exclusively cold weather activities
Baking
Football-I never follow. I love the sound in the background as I sit and read the Sunday paper and look at Target ads.
Orange- leaves, pumpkins, etc
Dark nights before I even get home from work and dark mornings as I wake up
The smell of neighbors’ fireplaces. The first one you get a whiff of each year is the most memorable.
Clearly, I would go on for hours…What did I miss?
I am completely sharing your excitement. And it seems like it’s early this year, which is even better.
Do you ever find yourself listening to different music when the seasons change? I always want to listen to David Gray when it gets cool out. No clue why…
Yes, I listen to more instrumental stuff. No clue why. This lasts until the stations start playing Christmas music.
I love that cool bite in the air early in the mornings when people are just starting to get up and about. It’s not quite cold but it’s not warm either. I know that’s a really horrible explanation but hopefully you know what I mean.
I hear ya.
Today was much cooler than it’s been lately. Felt really good outside. I love this list, but I gotta say, as an avid Atlanta Braves fan, the beginning of the football seasons heralds the end of the baseball one, and that sucks. Otherwise, I can totally dig it.
Um, aren’t all pencils the kind you sharpen?
There’s the mechanical variety. And there’s the kind that aren’t really wood, fake plasticy wood. I hate those.
And September 30 is my birthday, which is normally pretty cool… not really looking forward to this birthday though, as it is my 30th. But anyway, I know how you feel, it seems like fall is my Spring, if that makes any sense. It seems that it is the start of the year for me, not the end.
Well, have a great fall!

I like the smell of overturned fields after the harvest- that smell of moist earth and decomposing vegetation.
I love the smell of cut pumpkins- like when you’re carving them? yeah.
I also really like walking Cash in the fall- in the evening, just as the sun starts to go down. I put on his little coat and we go for a slow stroll, just smelling the air and enjoying the fall in general.
I think it’s the bite in the air. I love scarf-weather.
It’s finally cool here. Uh oh. Autumn be thy name.
